Richard has more than 40 years of experience in estate planning, probate, and trust administration and business law. He represents professionals, business owners, retirees, and families of all types, including blended families and families with young children. Richard works closely with clients to discuss family history and meet the client’s current goals in planning their estate. Richard often recommends solutions to difficult family and beneficiary situations. Beneficiary disputes over the family residence or family business are common and Richard can help find solutions to those difficult and sometimes emotional situations.
Richard has handled cases in the appellate courts, including the 1998 matter of Edwards v. Edwards regarding a dispute between co-trustees over voting shares of stock held in a family trust. He also served as co-counsel in ITSI T.V. Productions, Inc. v. California Authority of Racing Fairs, et al. That 1992 federal court decision involved lack of subject matter jurisdiction over a foreign entity in a copyright infringement action.
Prior to joining Duckor Metzger & Wynne as Of Counsel, Richard was a shareholder and managing partner at the firm formerly known as Boner Stern & Sipple. He is a dedicated and active member of the legal community, having held leadership positions with the San Diego County Bar Association and the State Bar of California. In addition, he serves on the Copley-Price Family YMCA Board. Richard previously served as a probation monitor for the State Bar of California Office of Trials and was a special master for the State Bar of California at the San Diego Superior Court.
Richard is married with two children and four grandchildren.
